After years of buying hummus, we finally realised how easy it is to make and how much better you can make it for a fraction of what it costs in a grocery store. Simply by changing out the red peppers in this recipe and adding more garlic you can make a garlic based hummus. We generally don't even add the tahini paste and it still comes out great.
Ingredients
3/4 cup roasted red peppers (roast your own, but easier and almost as cheap, buy a jar of pre-roasted red peppers) The oil they are packed in also adds extra flavor.
2 cans (15 oz each) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup tahini paste
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp crush or minced garlic (more if desired)
3/4 tsp paprika
pinch of salt
pinch of cayenne pepper (more if desired)
1 - Drain and rinse thoroughly canned chickpeas
2 - Add all ingredients into a blender or food processor
2 - Pules the ingredients for 60 seconds making sure all ingredients are getting combined.
3 - Now process until mixture becomes smooth. If mixture is too thick, simply add warm water a tbsp at a time until desired thickness is met.
4 - Season to taste
5 - Pour into serving dish and refrigerate.
Serve with pita bread, veggies, crackers or anything else your heart desires. Enjoy!
